Premium Pick

Top pick: #10 (EMMA'S POSSE) - The probable favorite (if he runs) will be making his first start since last November when he won off a 6 1/2 month layoff. Takes a big plunge today, but his works are adequate and you know he can fire fresh. Meets a weak field, he's 2-for-3 at this trip, and is the horse to beat.

2nd pick: #13 (Sheriff Bullock) - Shipper is in a good small barn (Joan Scott) and this lightly-raced gelding has won out of town on both "poly" and dirt. Drops off a good try at Mountaineer Park in a grass allowance and this 3-year-old has a flexible style. Price play.

3rd pick: #15 (Never Right Joey) - Speedy New York-bred chased and tired while racing wide facing much tougher on the Belmont infield July 9. Race was his first since early Dec. and trainer Todd Pletcher drops him way down and moves him back to the dirt. He's on the a.e. list, but if he scratches in, he'd be a win threat.

4th pick: #3 (Awesome Merger) - Improved run is noted last out at Belmont in his second off a claim by veteran Ed Barker. Has some back class, and state-bred fits this group. Can factor at a big price.
