Top pick: #2 (CODE WEST) (6-1) - He's always been highly thought of by trainer Bob Baffert and son of "Lemon Drop Kid" has a fine record when racing on real dirt (8-3-4-0). Speed/stalker became a stakes winner at Churchill on June 15th and has been trauning fast at Del Mar before shipping here. He'll be a square price and I like his chances.

2nd pick: #5 (Palace Malice) (5-2) - Belmont Stakes (G1) upsetter is the type that can "run all day" and has been training fast locally for his first start since then. In a rather strange fact, he's the only one entered who ran here as a 2-year-old and was a winner that August 4th afternoon when making his second start.

3rd pick: #7 (Freedom Child) (4-1) - He still has unlimited potential and was an easy winner at this distance when taking the "Peter Pan" stakes (G2) on May 11th. He tired badly in the Belmont stakes and has been on vacation since. Working fast and he's 2-for-3 at this demanding distance.

4th pick: #8 (Mylute) (7-2) - No-speed type almost always makes a string late charge and ran well earlier this year in both the "Kentucky Derby" and "Preakness" (G1). Grey colt would benefit the most if the pace was fast and/or contested.
