SANTA ANITA Race #7
Friday 05/23 06:05 PM Eastern
Top pick: #2 (UPBEAT MOOD) (7-2) - Very speedy filly just failed to last here at this level and distance on April 25th. It was her first in eight months and she's worked twice since. Turf specialist gets the call in a competitive contest.
2nd pick: #1 (Baruta) (2-1) - The morning line favorite, she's been beaten narrowly in both starts at this level and distance. They came after coming off an 11 month layoff and were her first races in North America. Obvious win candidate.
3rd pick: #9 (Yes She's Unusual) (8-1) - Longshot moves up in class after a win here at this distance when facing fellow Cal.-bred allowance foes on May 10th. Stalker ran a career best that day, draws outside of the speed, and can impact at a big price.
4th pick: #8 (Mark of a Gem) (9-2) - Grey filly has improved dramatically in her last pair and was a winner here over weaker at this trip April 10th. Working fast since, 4-year-old has a flexible style and has done her best racing (3-2-1-0) on this tricky downhill course.
5th pick: #5 (Our Little Hen) (10-1) - Very consistent (17-7-6-2) filly has finished second in both grass starts at this meet and will be cutting back in distance and moving up in class. In shape and can grab a share at a big price.
