Cal has been a strong home team the last few years, but a very different team on the road. Technically this is a home game, but it's actually at AT&T Park in San Francisco. Coach Mike Riley's Oregon State Beavers had a disastrous start, but have been playing better - especially against teams with defensive problems. The last two weeks they lost to Utah and powerhouse Stanford, but prior to that they whipped Arizona as a dog (37-27) and crushed Washington State (44-21). The Beavers are 16-6 ATS in their last 22 games as an underdog and 12-3 ATS in their last 15 games as a road dog. Cal QB Zach Maynard (13 TDs, 10 INTs) has been inconsistent, and the Golden Bears have been hit and miss offensively, losing four of the last six games. The defense has been a problem all season, giving up 31 points to UCLA two weeks ago, 30 to USC, 43 points to Oregon and 31 to Washington. UCLA had 294 yards rushing and Cal turned it over five times (four picks by Maynard). Cal defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast and Tedford have been re-evaluating the defensive personnel for much of the last month but little has worked. Oregon State has won five in a row against Cal, a team that is 2-7 ATS in their last nine conference games. Oregon State is 16-7 ATS under Mike Riley following a home loss. Take Oregon State in this one.
