Talented Jim McElwain is the new coach in Gainesville after running high-powered offenses at Colorado State. Offense was the problem at Florida the last few years -- but not now, already putting up a 61-13 rout of New Mexico State to please the fans. And he's not done yet with a soft East Carolina defense on deck this week. Two Florida quarterbacks are still contending for a starting job in Will Grier and Treon Harris, so don't look for either QB to play conservatively. And Gator fans are hungry for scoring after the last few years. Departed coach Will Muschamp didn't leave the cupboard bare defensively, one of the better units in the nation last season allowing 21.1 points per game (#20 in the country). New defensive coordinator Geoff Collins inherits great talent, with senior NT Jonathan Bullard anchoring the line and senior DE Bryan Cox, plus freshman DE CeCe Jefferson is a five-star recruit. Florida is 56-15 straight-up at home in the Swamp the last 10 years. Florida is also 5-0 ATS against a team with a winning record, 5-0 ATS in their last five non-conference games, plus 12-5-1 ATS in September. Rebuilding East Carolina lost its top three offensive cogs, including talented offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley. They looked to be in rebuilding mode last week, squeezing out a 28-20 win over Towson and now head out on the road to an SEC school licking its Gator chops for another big win. Towson rolled up 416 yards on East Carolina, including 179 rushing, and was 7-of-15 on third down. The Pirates are 7-20 ATS following a victory and 4-17 ATS against a team with a winning record. All Florida in this one, so lay the points on the Gators.
