(# 8) CUTE CAKES - Three-year-old filly by Lemon Drop Kid resides in the barn of top trainer Neil Howard. She did not start at two last season, as can be said of all but one of the runners entered here. She made her debut effort off of a fine series of workouts over the Polytrack surface that Keeneland now employs. The field was a large one and "Cakes" had a post position roughly in the middle of the pack. Jockey Edgar Prado took hold of the filly early in the race when she was in a bit of traffic and subsequently had to drop back in the large field of 11 that ran. The pace of the race was a legitimate one for the level and she picked up her run while very wide around the far turn. Filly showed a fine stretch kick, passing about seven horses - not an easy assignment for a horse making her first start. She hung a little in the last sixteenth of a mile to eventually finish fourth, beaten by a little over one length. She moves from the Polytrack surface to conventional dirt track today and adds a furlong of distance for her second career outing. Post Position is a good one for the seven-furlong distance and trainer Howard gives the mount to stable jockey Robby Albarado. Think she will give a good account of herself today, in this her second start.

The Plays: $10 to win and $10 to place on #8.
Total Wager = $20.00.
