Premium Pick

Top pick: #9 (BROWN BOSS) (5-2) - Gelding was bet in both starts last fall and was competitive in each, one on the Golden gate "poly" and the other on the Santa Anita dirt. Claimed out of his debut for $20K by Bob Hess jr., he has this 4-year-old working steadily and has his "go to" rider Raf Bejarano aboard. The trainer/jockey team is solid, winning at a 20% clip when teamed up.

2nd pick: #3 (Bertrando Grande) (6-1) - He showed good early speed while a bit "rank" befire tiring here in a grass sprint facing tougher on May 10th. Race was his first in 15 1/2 months and trainer Mike Pender drops him down and switches him from turf to "poly." Strong win candidate.

3rd pick: #12 (Hedger) (8-1) - Colt has some speed and will be cutting back in distance in his third back from a long layoff (11 months). Working fast, blinkers go on, and 4-year-old is a nice preice play.

4th pick: #13 (Warren's Parolee) (15-1) - Longshot has been competitive in 3-of-4 on the Santa Anita dirt and has been freshened up for the past seven weeks. Warren home-bred has some speed and can factor if he handles the "poly" surface.

5th pick: #5 (Keep Movin) (5-1) - Debuting runner is almost 5 1/2 yrs old so he must have some issues. Working steadily and trainer Bruce Headley is off to a strong start at this meet.
