Titans vs Rams Preview
The Los Angeles Rams (7-1) hit the field as 7.5-point favorites against the Tennessee Titans (6-2) on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at SoFi Stadium. Both teams are riding four-game winning streaks. The total has been set at 53.5 points for this matchup.
This Sunday Night matchup has turned on its head with some major news shaking up both teams. The Titans got some horrible news as Derrick Henry suffered a right-foot injury during the Colts game on Sunday. He had surgery this morning and at this time has no timetable to return. This is a huge blow for Tennessee as they structure their offense around Henry and his power-back running style. On the other side of the ball the Rams got some good news, acquiring Von Miller from Broncos. The deal sends Miller to LA and Denver gets two picks in next years draft. The Rams defense now has three potential Hall of Famers in Miller, Donald, and Ramsey.
The Rams D has not lived up to their #1 ranking last season, finding themselves as the 21st ranked defense heading into Week 9. LA has allowed an average of 373.9 yards per game, including averages of 111.9 rushing yards (15th) and 262 passing (21st). But they show up when needed most, tied at No. 7 alongside the Green Bay Packers and Carolina Panthers, with 20.9 points allowed per game. The addition of Miller should be huge in both run and pass defense.
The Titans have added Adrian Peterson to help fill the hole that the Derrick Henry injury has left. Though the 36-year old spent majority of his career on the Minnesota Vikings, he has bounced around a few teams over the past couple years. Peterson won’t bring the level of production that Henry did but he fits the similar mold to what the Titans want to run. Tennessee’s identify is ground and pound then find the open receiver on the play-action. Now it looks like they will have to spread it out a bit more.
Tennessee has one of the worst secondaries in the league this season, pass heavy teams are having a field day against them. They are 29th in passing yards allowed and 27th in total yards allowed. They also struggle in red-zone defense ranking 29th in the league on lineups.com. The Rams have a middle of the league rushing defense but rank 2nd in passing yards, which could cause the Titans problems. They also rank 1st in red-zone touchdowns which is an area that the Titans are weak.
The Titans were just hitting their stride, winning their last 4 games. They won the last 4 games by 9 or more points, two of those games were double digit wins. The injury bug can hit at some of the worst moments, it will be interesting to see how the Titans adjust to losing Henry. The Rams are on a 4 game winning streak of their own, with three of those games being on the road. They have played 3 of the worst teams this year (Lions, Texans, NY Giants) during that run.
