Week 10 NFL Picks: Seahawks vs. Packers – Preview, Odds and Trends

The 3-5 Seahawks travel to Lambeau Field to take on the 7-2 Packers

Russell Wilson is back in action after injuring his finger against the LA Rams

Seahawks vs. Packers Preview

A rematch of the 2020 divisional round playoff matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks takes place this Sunday at 4:25 in Lambeau Field. Russell Wilson returns to action for this one after being out the last five weeks with a fractured finger. The Seahawks are coming off a bye and thumped Jacksonville 31-7 for a nice win heading into the rest. Seattle has covered three straight games with backup QB Geno Smith under center and has hit the Under in six straight outings. Now Wilson has been cleared to play at the time of writing but Smith could play if Wilson still has some issues.

The Packers suffered a 13-7 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs, using backup QB Jordan Love with QB Aaron Rodgers unavailable due to a positive COVID-19 test. The earliest Rodgers can return is Saturday and if cleared should be good to start. It will be something to keep an eye on this week as the line can shift quickly if Rodgers is cleared and can play Sunday afternoon. Jordan Love had a rough first start, but looked to find some rhythm in the 4th quarter.

Green Bay’s offensive success has come through both the passing and rushing areas, with Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams providing a nice one-two punch to complement Aaron Rodgers. The running backs didn’t have a great game against the Chiefs, with both backs combining for under 100 yards rushing. That could be because of a loaded box due to Love starting instead of Rodgers.

The Seahawks offense since Russell has been out with the finger injury as been a good mix of rushing and passing. Geno Smith hasn’t lit the world on fire but the more games he has played the better they have looks. Definitely looks good when you have the Jags before the bye week. Having Russell back should give this Seahawks some confidence coming into this Packers game.

If Rodgers is ready to go then look for Aaron Jones to have a big day. His production definitely goes up when Rodgers is under center. Seattle ranks 25th in the league in opponent rushing yards per game. If Rodgers is a go, then look for him to attack that Seattle secondary which ranks 28th in the league. On the other hand Green Bay’s defensive secondary ranks 7th in the league for Opponents passing yards per game. Having Wilson back for the Seahawks should bring some solidity to the offensive play calling and allow Russell to “cook”.

This game is tough to handicap due to the unknown of Rodgers playing status. It’s going to be a cold day at Lambeau with early weather predictions setting the temperature around 35 degrees. Wind set to be around 10 MPH.
