Houston at Los Angeles Game Overview
Houston’s recent seven-game winning streak came to an end on Sunday with a 6-1 loss to Kansas City as a -108 road favorite on BetAnySports closing money line. The total stayed UNDER 8.5 in that game and it has stayed UNDER in 13 of its last 17 games in MLB picks. The Astros are currently 39-37 on the year with a 17-22 record on the road. They are 10 games off the pace in the AL West Division race set by Texas (49-27).
The Astros’ bats were quiet in Sunday’s loss after pounding out a total of 26 runs in two previous victories against Kansas City in this past weekend’s three-game series. They have averaged 4.4 runs a game this season. Turning to Houston’s starter for Monday night, Collin McHugh will get the call. The right-hander will be making his 16th start of the season and he comes in with a record of 5-5 behind a 4.70 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP. In last week’s start against the Angels at home, he allowed just two earned runs on five hits to pick-up the win.
After losing three straight to Houston on the road last week, Los Angeles dropped the first three games of this past weekend’s series at home against Oakland. It snapped the six-game skid with Sunday’s 7-6 victory as a -113 favorite with BetAnySport. The total went OVER 8.5 in that game and it has gone OVER in the last four games. The Angels are now 32-44 on the year including a losing 16-23 record at home.
Heading into Sunday’s series finale against the A’s, the Angels averaged 3.6 runs during their six-game slide. This compares to a 4.3 runs per game average that is ranked ninth in the AL. Look for Matt Shoemaker to get the start in this series opener. The right-hander was on the losing end of a 3-2 setback against Houston last week to fall to 3-8 through 14 previous starts. His ERA stands at 4.43 with a 1.28 WHIP.
