Football picksOctober 5, 2012

The Eagles have been one of the most difficult teams to get a handle on this season. They have won some games in unimpressive fashion, they have turned the ball over a lot, and they have managed to survive. Last week, they knocked off the Giants at home to move to 3-1. This week, they have a stiff challenge, heading on the road to Pittsburgh to battle a Steelers team that is off of a bye. The Steelers are short favorites in this game, coming in at -3 at many books. This is a tough spot for the Eagles, but they have a shot to win this game.

The Eagles have been very strange over the last few weeks. They have turned the ball over a lot. They have thrown the ball more than you might expect. And they have been hit or miss on defense. The Eagles have not gotten Shady McCoy involved in the offense very much and this has been a major problem for many Eagles fans. This week, they will face off against a Pittsburgh defense that does a good job of getting after the QB. That will present some challenges for Michael Vick in this game.

The Steelers should perform well in this game. They are off of a bye and should be recovered from some injuries. The running backs have gotten healthier, and with Rashard Mendenhall on the mend, they will have more weapons to work with. Ben Roethlisberger has been much better over the last few weeks, and he will need to be against an Eagles secondary that is full of ballhawks. Will the Steelers be able to physically dominate the line of scrimmage? That might be the big question of this game. If they can control the line, the Steelers will win this game.

The weather is always worth looking at when a game is played in Pittsburgh. If the weather is bad, the Eagles will have to finally run the ball. The Steelers should benefit from getting a lot of rest, as the Philly guys will be beat up after playing a tough game against New York. It is worth noting that the Steelers need this game to get themselves back on the winning track. This will serve as a piece of extra motivation in this game. If the Steelers can bring their A-game, they might be able to cover the field goal line.
