It wasn’t all that long ago that the Cincinnati Bengals were considered to be a legitimate Super Bowl title contender and quite possibly one of the best all-around teams in the NFL. With a vastly improved defense and an offense that just seemed to wake up all the sudden and improve this team’s chances of being favored in NFL picks, the future looked bright in Cincinnati, but then they got back to their losing ways despite some upgrades on offense and become a bottom feeder in the AFC Conference yet again.

With the Cincinnati Bengals having an awful season last year and no signs of hope for the future, the team has started to fall apart with the undisputed leader in quarterback Carson Palmer telling the team to trade him or he is going to retire.

At first, this threat seemed to be something that was the result of a such a bad season, but as time has gone on Palmer has stuck to his guns and looks like he is ready to call it quits as the Cincinnati Bengals have refused to trade the former Pro Bowler.

Are the Carolina Panthers ready to trade wideout Steve Smith?

The Carolina Panthers made yet another bold move in the 2011 NFL Draft by acquiring arguably the most talented player in the draft in Heisman Trophy winner and BCS champion quarterback Cam Newton. Even though the Panthers selected quarterback Jimmy Clausen in last year’s draft, this season they felt like taking Newton number one overall was the right move as he was without doubt the best player on the board.

With Cam Newton under center and a completely different kind of offense being run in Carolina, the Panthers may be ready to finally get rid of the underachieving wide receiver Steve Smith. At one point in time, Smith was considered to be arguably the best wideout in the game and arguably the main reason the Panthers would be favored in NFL picks, but now he has started to see his skills decline as he is no longer the best player on the Panthers.

With that being said, the Panthers seem ready to cut their losses and let him go via trade.

Will the Minnesota Vikings go after Vince Young?

The Minnesota Vikings are going to start the beginning of a new era of football without future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre under center. With Favre basically with one foot out of the door, the Vikings will be looking for a new veteran quarterback to take his place and there is no shortage of those kind of quarterbacks around the league right now. This may something you look at when making your NFL picks

Perhaps the most intriguing veteran quarterback of them all that is supposedly available is Vince Young. With his recent dust up with the Tennessee Titans and former head coach Jeff Fisher, the Titans seem ready to move on and are ready to either trade or release the former Texas Longhorn.

With that being said, there will be no shortage of interested teams around the league, but perhaps the most interested could be the Minnesota Vikings. Now that Favre is no longer under center and there is no backup that is ready to take the starting role in Minnesota, Young would be a welcome addition and deadly threat in the backfield alongside arguably the best running back in the game in Adrian Peterson.

Basketball picksMay 10, 2011

With the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers swept by the Dallas Mavericks and the defending Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics 1 game from elimination as they head into Game 5, the question about which team is the best all-around squad left in the NBA playoffs has become a pretty heated debate.

Obviously, there are a few people holding onto the opinion that the Celtics have been here before and will most likely turn it around, but the consensus around the league right now is that the Miami Heat might just be the best team left in the playoffs.

With the three-headed monster of Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and LeBron James leading the way, the Miami Heat have been as tough a team to beat in the Eastern Conference during these playoffs and clear favorites in NBA picks.

Whether or not their inexperience playing with each other in the playoffs will be their downfall remains to be seen, but right now they are sitting pretty with a 3-1 series lead and look like they may have already punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Dallas Mavericks are up 2-0 in their series vs. the Lakers. To turn this around and win this series, LA must win 4 of 5 games with only two home games. Can they do it?

Sure they can do it. But it’s unlikely. And, thanks to some unique circumstances, we can get value by backing the Mavs to close this one out.

Why might the Mavs be undervalued here? Well there are two obvious reasons:

  1. This is the Lakers (as public a team as it gets). This the team coming off back-to-back NBA championships. This is the team with Kobe Bryant – one of the best of all time. This is the team with the Zen Master Phil Jackson – the NBA coach with the most championships. So, the betting public just can’t bring themselves to believe this team will lose.
  2. This is the Mavs – the under-performing Dallas Mavericks. This is the team that had a 2-0 lead and a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter of game 3 vs. the Miami Heat a few years back… and went on to lose the series and the NBA championship. This is the team with a super star that people just can’t respect (7 foot white guy that doesn’t bang down low). This is the anti-Lakers – a team the public doesn’t like.

These two factors mean that the the oddsmakers shade the series line towards the public favorite Lakers. They have set the line for this series at this point at Lakers +235 and the Mavericks at -275. Yes, these are shaded lines.

There have been 18 teams that have gone on the road down 0-2 in a best of seven NBA playoff series. Only three of those teams were able to come back and win the series. That’s 17%. That means 83% of the time, the team up 2-0 hosting game three went on to win the series. Fair odds on an 83% chance bet is -500. Yet, we are getting -275 on Dallas.

History aside, ask yourself after watching the first two games of this series which team looks like the better team. I’m on the Mavs to win this series at -275 (Bodog) which is a huge overlay vs. the fair odds of -500.

This season has been a breath of fresh air for the lowly Los Angeles Clippers as they were finally relevant once again. Even though the Clippers were still underdogs in NBA picks almost every single game and fail to make the playoffs yet again, the other NBA franchise in Los Angeles finally has hope for the future in the form of superstar rookie forward Blake Griffin.

Get NBA picks this entire NBA basketball season

With Blake Griffin gracing the NBA highlight reels every single night and an absolute double-double machine for the Los Angeles Clippers, this struggling NBA franchise finally had something to cheer about as their team could very well be in the hunt for the playoffs or the Pacific Division title in the near future.

Along with almost certainly having a bright future ahead of them, the Los Angeles Clippers received some very good news recently as they learned that All-Star rookie forward Blake Griffin has officially won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award with the first unanimous vote in twenty years.

This was impressive to say the least, but the one thing that the Clippers took from this more than anything was the fact that they could very well be playoff bound sooner rather than later.
