The Midwestern Pace and how it affects your NCAA Basketball Picks

The Midwestern Pace and how it affects your NCAA Basketball Picks

If you have been into college basketball betting for even a short period of time, then you should know a little bit about basketball in the Big Ten. There is a certain “pace” that the Big Ten teams are known for, and if you want to win with your NCAA basketball picks, you will understand this. The problem for too many bettors is that they fail to realize that things move a little bit more slowly in this league. This causes them to bet big favorites who have trouble covering those huge numbers. When the game is being played at a slower pace, the lines are all relative.

So who are these college basketball betting offenders? Wisconsin is the most important that comes to mind, especially when it plays at home. The Badgers play good defense and grind the shot clock down to nothing. Though they don’t score many points, you should realize that their offense is top shelf. The problem, of course, is that it becomes difficult for teams to cover big numbers when the game is shorter. As a bettor, you should think of these slow paced games as being something like 32 or 33 minutes long. That is the time your team will have to cover a spread, so bet accordingly.

Early lines or late lines in college basketball betting?

Early lines or late lines in college basketball betting?

As with almost all kinds of betting, there is a big question among college basketball bettors. Should I bet the line early or wait until it has moved. The answer to this depends upon your ability to handicap games, your strategy in waiting out the public, and plenty of other factors. Generally, though, it makes sense to hit lines as early as possible. Though there is not a hard-line rule on this, the early posted line is the one where you can usually find the most value.

That is not to say that this is always the case. In college basketball betting and making college basketball picks, there will be many times when you can jump on a late line after the public has had its say on a game. These scenarios will be plentiful during the season and you can often fade the public if they jump on a game that looks too good to be true. In college basketball betting, it pays to keep yourself flexible so that you can win consistently over the long run. Having an approach that allows you to bet both the early line and late line will keep you in the game when making NCAA basketball picks.

NBA Picks : Miami Heat vs Chicago Bulls

NBA Matchup: Heat @ Bulls

Miami Heat at Chicago Bulls Thurs. Feb. 24, 2011 8 p.m. EST

There are a lot of much improved teams in the NBA this season, but the two at the top of the list are without a doubt the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls. With the addition of superstar free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh alongside the re-signed Dwyane Wade, the Miami Heat became a superpower in the Eastern Conference.

The Chicago Bulls on the other hand only made one big move to sign forward Carlos Boozer, but it was enough to propel this team to first place in the Central and a high seed in the Eastern Conference. Along with finally getting some solid team chemistry in the Windy City, the Bulls are a serious force to be reckoned with and favored to come out on top in NBA picks on a nightly basis.

On Thursday night, these two vastly improved basketball teams will go head-to-head in what could quite possibly be a preview of a seven-game series in the playoffs. Even though this game will be played in Chicago, the Heat have been favored to come out on top with a -1 point spread.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Portland Trailblazers NBA Picks vs the Spread

NBA Matchup: Lakers @ Blazers (NBA Picks)

Los Angeles Lakers at Portland Trail Blazers Weds. Feb. 23, 2011 10:30 p.m. EST

The two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers have had their fair share of struggles as of late and have had to field a lot of questions on whether or not they can still contend for a third straight NBA title, but they have a chance to start with a clean slate in the first half of the season as they will head to the Rose Garden to take on the Portland Trail Blazers.

Even though the Lakers have are almost always favored to come out on top in NBA picks, Kobe Bryant and company tend to struggle in Portland as the Rose Garden has been their Achilles heel over the past few years. Not only will the Lakers most likely struggle in Portland, but they are in desperate need of getting back on track and will need a win.

Fortunately, I believe the Lakers will get back on track with a dominant performance against the Blazers on Wednesday night. This should be a close game from start to finish, but in the end the defending champs should get the win.

Oklahoma Thunder vs San Antonio Spurs NBA Odds, Picks & Predictions

Oklahoma Thunder vs San Antonio Spurs NBA Odds, Picks & Predictions

Oklahoma City Thunder at San Antonio Spurs Weds. Feb. 23, 2011 7 p.m. EST

The San Antonio Spurs may have lost to the Chicago Bulls just before the All-Star break as superstar point guard Derrick Rose went off for a career-high 42 points, but they are still without a doubt the best team in the NBA right now with only 10 losses on the season.

On Wednesday night, the Spurs will be defending their home floor against arguably the one of the most promising teams in the league. Even though they were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs against the eventual NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, they were the only team that really threatened to take down the champs and could make a run in the playoffs this time around.

With the league’s leader scorer Kevin Durant leading the way for the Oklahoma City Thunder, the San Antonio Spurs will have their work cut out for them, but they will still almost certainly be the favorites in NBA picks.

Along with Durant, the Thunder also have one of the most promising young point guards in the league in Russell Westbrook. This should be a battle that comes down to the wire and I believe the Thunder will pull off the upset.

Milwaukee Bucks vs New York Knicks NBA Picks Wednesday Night

NBA Matchup: Bucks @ Knicks (NBA Picks)

Milwaukee Bucks at New York Knicks Weds. Feb. 23, 2011 7:30 p.m. EST

The New York Knicks have finally got their man as they were able to convince the Denver Nuggets to ship superstar Carmelo Anthony to the Big Apple. With the addition of Melo alongside Amare Stoudemire and Chauncey Billups running the show at the point, the New York Knicks could turned out to be a superpower in the Eastern Conference once again.

On Wednesday night, the New York Knicks will host the Milwaukee Bucks at Madison Square Garden where Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups will suit for their new team for the first time since the trade went down on Tuesday morning. Even though this would normally be a fairly even matchup, this Knicks will almost certainly be favored in NBA picks this time around as they will be a much more well rounded team with Melo and Billups.

This could ultimately turn out to be a close game as the Knicks will take some time to get their new players involved and strike up some team chemistry, but in the meantime New York should still could come out on top.
