Philadelphia 76ers @ Los Angeles Lakers Fri. Dec. 31st 2010 10:30pm EST

The Los Angeles Lakers haven’t exactly played like the team that has dominated the league the last two or three years lately as they have struggled to keep playing consistently well, but they are coming off an impressive win over the New Orleans Hornets and will be hoping to take that momentum home with them as they are set to take on the Philadelphia 76ers at Staples Center on New Year’s Eve.

Even though the 76ers would normally be just another easy win over the Lakers in the past, the two-time defending champs haven’t exactly live up to their NBA picks as of late and any team can challenge Kobe Bryant and company.

Despite the Lakers playing extremely streaky right now and not really living up to expectations at this point in the NBA regular season, Phil Jackson has seemed to pull this team together after the big win over the Hornets and will most likely have his boys ready to defend their home floor Friday night in Los Angeles.

New Orleans Hornets @ Boston Celtics Fri. Dec. 31st 2010 3pm EST

The matchup between the New Orleans Hornets and the Boston Celtics will be amongst the most intriguing on New Year’s Eve this Friday as the Hornets are in need of a serious rebound after getting pounded by the two-time defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and the Celtics won’t know what kind of team they will have without Kevin Garnett.

Even though these two teams are without a doubt playoff bound at season’s end and may very well be a preview of the NBA Finals if both teams can continue to play well this season, they will head into this game with a lot of uncertainty as the NBA picks have yet to be released.

In my opinion, the Boston Celtics are arguably the most resilient team in the NBA in terms of getting right back on track no matter who is healthy in their lineup and that will never be more apparent than this Friday.

Despite the Hornets being a force to be reckoned with this season, they will struggle against this tough Celtics squad and almost certainly fall to the defending Eastern Conference champs.

Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers Sun. Jan. 2nd 2010 4:15pm EST

The Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers are fierce division rivals that have no love lost between them, but their heated rivalry will get even more intense this weekend at Lambeau Field as the Packers are in a must win situation as the division champs come to town in the last week of the NFL regular season.

Fortunately, the Packers seem to finally be headed back in the right direction as they have been getting some much needed love in NFL picks and have their offense firing on all cylinders once again with perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers back under center.

With Rodgers back healthy last week against the New York Giants, the Green Bay Packers exploded on offense as they were able to light up one of the best defenses in the league for 45 points in the rout that kept this team in the playoff hunt.

With a win in Week 17 against the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers will officially clinch a playoff spot and could be a very dangerous team heading into the postseason.

Football picksDecember 26, 2010

San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams Sun. Dec. 26th 2010 1pm EST

The San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Rams may be coming off loses in Week 15, but they will have a chance to get right back on track as they will go head to head this weekend in this NFC West division battle.

Even though the Rams are still leading the way in the NFC West, a loss to the 49ers could potentially be devastating as it may cost them the division title. There is no question that the Rams are the best team within the division right now and may very well be playoff bound, but despite being favored by a -2 point spread in NFL picks, Mike Singletary’s squad will almost certainly give them a run for their money in Week 16.

This will most likely be a hard fought battle from start to finish as both teams know what is at stake in this NFC West showdown, but in the end I believe Sam Bradford and company will come out on top with an impressive victory on their home field.

Indianapolis Colts @ Oakland Raiders Sun. Dec. 26th 2010 4:05pm EST

The Oakland Raiders continue to prove week in and week out that they are serious force to be reckoned with in the AFC Conference this season and may very well be playoff bound at season’s end, but they will have arguably their toughest test of the season ahead of them as they try and contain four-time NFL MVP quarterback Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts potent offense.

Even though the Colts have been given the slight edge in NFL picks in Week 16 with a -2.5 point spread, I believe the Raiders will put up one hell of fight this weekend on their home field in Oakland. Not only has the Raiders offense come into their own as of late as running back Darren McFadden continues turn into one of the best backs in the league, but the Oakland defense might be able to lead this team to victory this weekend by playing some hardnosed football.

Taking the Raiders to pull off the upset is a risky bet against a quarterback like Peyton Manning, but they are the real deal this season and will prove that in Week 16 with the win.

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons Mon. Dec. 27th 2010 8:30pm EST

The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints are arguably one of the best teams in the league once again this season, but they are coming off a disappointing loss to the Baltimore Ravens and will be heading into Atlanta to take on the red hot division-leading Falcons.

Not only will this matchup between the Saints and the Falcons almost certainly determine the winner of the NFC South division, but if the defending champs can’t get the best of their division rivals on Monday Night Football, they may be on the outside looking in on the playoffs.

Both of these NFC Conference heavyweights have been favored in NFL picks over the past few months as they have been on a tear as of late, but this week will almost certainly tilt in the favor of the Atlanta Falcons as they have won eight straight and clinched a playoff spot with their win over the Seattle Seahawks (34-18).

This will be arguably the best game of the week in my opinion with a thrilling finish, but in the end the Falcons will prove that they are Super Bowl title contenders with a win over the defending champs.
