Belmont Stakes Pick - August 02, 2012
This Saturday Saratoga will play host to a pair of (G1) stakes, the $300K Prioress for 3-year-old fillies and the $750,000 Whitney for older runners. We'll have both on our newsletter that day as the "Spa" has a 12-race card that afternoon.
We posted another solid day at Del Mar yesterday. For full results, see below. Today we return to the Del Mar meet with another four-spot of premium racing selections.
East Coast Results: Saratoga Race #8 Exacta (6-7) $42.80.
West Coast Results: Del Mar Race #1 Top Pick #2 (ALL ON THE TABLE) $6.60.
Del Mar Race #2 Exacta (5-6) $66.40.
Del Mar Race #4 Best Bet #5 (YOU'RE JOKING) $3.00.
Top pick: #6 (JOE VANN) - I believe that he's the main speed of this rather pace-less group on paper. Pletcher trained colt hasn't won since going wire-to-wire in the Illinois Derby (G3) back in April of 2011. He tired badly at Monmouth in late May and has been freshened-up since that time. Traing steadily and it's nice to see Johnny V. on this big drop down.
2nd pick: #1 (Dreaming Blue) - Lightly-raced gelding is working very fast for his first race in two months. Stalker drops in price, has the rail, and Dominguez gets aboard for the first time.
3rd pick: #3 (Tuvia's Force) - Lightly-raced 5-year-old son of "Mineshaft" has had his career broken up by many layoffs and has dropped down in price of late. He finished a solid second at Belmont June 17th racing for $15K and had a nice half-mile work here a week ago. His early speed should have him involved today from start to finish.
4th pick: #5 (Tom Cat Allie) - Stretch-out sprinter has been racing evenly of late and he had a very "troubled" start here just five days ago. I like the quick turnaround and he may do well at a big price.
