Horse Racing Pick - July 27, 2012

With the threat of rain once again at Saratoga this afternoon, we'll limit our selections and analysis to three of the scheduled dirt contests with our 4th race coming from Monmouth Park.

Today is one of a pair of "Party at the Spa" Fridays and the first post has been moved back to 2:30 PM EST.

From the West Coast, we return to Del Mar with another four-spot of premium racing selections. Get them all here.

East Coast Results: Saratoga Race #3 Best Bet #6 (DYNAMIC STAR) $4.10.

Saratoga Race #5 Exacta (3-1) $11.80.

West Coast Results: Del Mar Race #3 Exacta (4-1) $48.40.

Del Mar Race #8 Exacta (10-5) $33.40.

Today's Picks:

SARATOGA Race #1 at 2:30 PM Eastern

Top pick: #3 (MY SUNSHINE GAL) - She finished a solid second last out at Monmouth to the Pletcher-trained "Maple Forest" in a sprint stakes. She faces off today against a field with little other visible speed and think that jockey Rajiv Maragh will be instructed to put her right on top. The horse to beat.

2nd pick: #4 (Strike the Moon) - She ships in from Maryland for this and will be going turf to dirt for a capable barn (Mike Trombetta). All three of her career wins have come on the dirt and she posted a 3-furlong bullet work after arriving here the other day.

3rd pick: #5 (Twice the Lady) - Filly was scratched out of yesterday's second race to await this spot. She drops down after a failed effort in a stakes last out and in her prior pair had been sharp. The presence of Dominguez is always a plus.

4th pick: #6 (Erin Rose) - She finished an even fourth at Philly park June 25th in her first back off a year's layoff. Lightly raced, she's had a month to recover, has worked twice, and Jose Lezcano, who wins at a 33% clip when riding for trainer Chris Clement is aboard.
