Saratoga begins its first of six straight weeks of six-day racing today with Tuesdays being the only "dark" day until the meet ends on labor day (Sept. 3).
This Friday they'll be hosting one of two "Parties at the Spa", with the first post moved back to 2:30 PM.
Del Mar resumes their meet today after a "dark" day yesterday. We return with them for four premium selections.
East Coast Results: Parx Racing (Philadelphia Park) Race #1 Top Pick #6 (NOW AND THEN)$3.60.
Parx Racing (Philadelphia Park) Race #3 Top Pick #1 (LIONEL IS LUCKY) $8.60.
West Coast Results: Mountaineer Park Race #4 Exacta (6-2) $23.20.
Mountaineer Park Race #5 Top Pick #6 (FLIP FLOP) $7.00.
Top pick: #1 (DERVISH PRINCE) - He has a pedigree from another era, being by "Cozzene" out of a mare by Island Whirl. Grey colt has shown fine early speed in both his grass races and each has come facing special weights. Trainer Nick Zito drops him into a claimer and and this 3-year-old moves from the 12 post last out at Belmont to the rail.
2nd pick: #8 (Street Ballad) - Another dropping into a claimer for the first time and this $250K son of "Street Sense" will also have lasix added by trainer Jimmy Jerkens. Think he'll be compettiive at a square price.
3rd pick: #3 (Sokitumi Samurai) - Colt races first off a claim by veteran John Parisella and he immediately moves this son of "First Samurai" to the grass. He's been competitive in 5-of-7 appearances and has a speed/stalking style.
4th pick: #5 (Superestrella) - Colt was claimed in early April by Dom Schettino for $50,000 and and was sent in for a 70 day break at that time. 4-year-old by "Storm Cat" has raced evenly in a pair of starts at this level since returning and improved a bit last out when he finished fourth at Belmont.
