Horse Racing Tip Sheets - July 20, 2012
Today is opening day at Saratoga as it begins its 144th season of thoroughbred racing. Following this initial four-day stretch, a steady six week session begins with the only "dark" day coming on Tuesdays. There are 40 days of "live" racing, filled with "graded" stakes with the final card coming on Labor day.
The first post on the 10-race card from the Spa is 1:00 PM EST.
We have five races on today's East Coast racing newsletter (all from Saratoga), including the (G3) James Marvin Stakes.
From the west, we are ready to roll with four premium racing selections from Del Mar. Get all of today's premium racing picks here.
East Coast Results: Delaware park Race #1 Top Pick #5 (I'm Done) $3.00.
Delaware Park Race #2 Top Pick #1 (GOLD ON GOLD) $6.40.
Delaware cancelled due to dangerous thunderstorms after two races, eliminating our other two races.
Top pick: #4 (YANKEE FORTUNE) - He won the Hawthorne Derby (G3) back in 2010 and has been a steady performer on the grass his entire career (11-5-2-2). The recent part of his racing lines is full of layoffs, but he's making his third start in a row and last out he missed by a neck facing a bit tougher at Belmont on June 14th. Stalker is the choice in the historic trsck's opener of its 144th year.
2nd pick: #2 (Midnite Silver) - Veteran is (21-7-5-2) ovrall on the turf and he's exiting a pair of solid sprint efforts at Belmont since coming back from a seven week freshening July 8th. Stretches-out today and he's won 3-of-6 at this trip in the past.
3rd pick: #6 (Salto) - Irish-bred kept lofty company while racing in France during the early part of his career and came to the states last fall. Colt broke slowly in his U.S. debut and rallied to finish fifth, beaten 5 lengths in the (G3) Commonwealth S. at Churchill Downs Nov. 3. Training fast locally for his first start since then and a major threat with his best.
4th pick: #8 (Writingonthewall) - Veteran New York-bred is 4-for-5 on this surface and comes into this off a near miss at Belmont on July 1st. He's the main speed every time he races and will take them as far as he can.
