Horse Racing Form - July 14, 2012

A reminder that Saratoga opens next Friday for a 40-day stand that will end on Labor Day (Sept. 3). After the initial four days, the track will run six straight weeks with the only "dark" days coming on Tuesdays.

The meet is filled with "graded" stakes and has the best horses, trainers, and jockeys in the entire country. It will be the featured track every day on our East Coast racing newsletter.

Today we have a total of five races - two from Belmont, including the (G1) $600,000 Man O'War Stakes, and three from Monmouth Park.

Rain is in the forecast at both tracks and that possibility has been taken into consideration in our analysis and selections.

East Coast Results: Monmouth Park Race #2 Top Pick #3 (BACK POCKET MONEY) $4.60.

West Coast Results: Betfair Hollywood Park Race #8 Top Pick #11 (TIZ A BRITE MISS) $6.00.

Today's Picks:

MONMOUTH PARK Race #3 at 1:45 PM Eastern

Top pick: #1 (CAP'S LADY) - She has the rail advantage and comes off a strong effort when she rallied to finish second, beaten a neck here racing for a $7500 price tag on June 15th. Much improved since a trainer change to Terri Pompay and this 3-year-old gets the call in a competitive contest.

2nd pick: #3 (Do It With Honor) - She's raced well in both starts at this price since being claimed by Pat Marrotta in late may for $5000. Consistent sort has a flexible style and is a win candidate.

3rd pick: #7 (Moriah Rising) - Speedy and lightly-raced filly takes a big drop in price for her first off a Ramon Preciado claim and a subsequent seven week freshening. Barn is great off the claim (36%), but the big drop in price is a bit of a concern.

4th pick: #6 (Report Back) - Another who is dropping and last out she raced wide and evenly for a $16K tag June 29th. She's run well at this price in the past and it's nice to see Carmouche back on the re-ride.
