Kentucky Derby Handicapping - April 27, 2012

Historic Belmont Park opens its spring/summer meet today with a first race post of 12:50 PM Eastern.

The session runs through July 14th, when the following week the action moves to upstate and Saratoga for the annual six week stand through Labor Day.

Today we have three races from Belmont and one from Tampa Bay Downs.

East Coast Results: Keeneland Race #8 Top Pick #5 (Upperline) $6.00.

West Coast Results: Hollywood Park Race 1 Exacta Box of the three picks (5-1) $29.20.

BELMONT PARK Race #3 at 1:50 PM Eastern

Top pick: #5 (CHARLIE'S QUEST) - He broke his maiden in impressive style at Gulfstream on March 10th and did so at this one turn or "flat" mile. Trainer Rick Dutrow claimed him that day for $75K and has freshened him up since. Working fast for this, Dutrow has him nicely spotted and he wins at a 31% clip first off the claim.

2nd pick: #3 (Unstoppable U ) - He was professional when winning his debut on a sloppy Aqueduct main track on March 31st. He rated just off the lead, bid when asked, and he drew off to win going away. Working fast since, he stretches-out in distance for his first against fellow winners.

3rd pick: #4 (Forward March) - Colt cost an astounding $2,050,000 and was a winner when debuting at Monmouth last Sept. The patient barn of "Shug" McGaughey sent him in for a 5 1/2 month break and son of "Distorted Humor" tired in his return rac at Gulfstream Feb. 26. Working nicely on this surface and we'll find out a lot more about his talent level this afternoon.
