Horse Racing Selection - April 18, 2012Aqueduct begins the final five days of it's long fall/winter/spring meet with the action in New York shifting to Belmont next week. Aqueduct won't be open again until late October. Today we have two races apiece from both Tampa Bay Downs & Aqueduct. Tuesday's East Coast Results: Santa Anita re-opens tomorrow for it's final four days of racing with Hollywood Park opening it's spring/summer meet next week. With few options today, we have four races today from an early evening card at Penn National. The post time is 3:00pm Pacific. Tuesday's West Coast Results: ![]() Today's Picks: Top pick: #2 (YANKYSJAZZ) - Colt runs first off a claim by the leading barn at this meet (Jamie ness). This 4yo is brought back quickly(19 days) and they'll raise him slightly in price and cut him back from 8.5 furlongs tp 6 panels. Ness wins at a 35% rtae first off the claim and this runner looks to have only one strong challenger. 2nd pick: #1 (Dream of Perth) - The main danger, he's gone (3-0-1-2) since coming here from Gulfstream in early February and switching to trainer Gerald Bennett.Speed/stalker has the rail and is a win candidate in this spot. 3rd pick: #6 (Isolation Road) - Gelding has finished 2nd in his last pair, including a neck loss here just 2 weeks ago racing at this tag going 5 furlongs. Stalker defested "Perth" two back and must be left in the mix. 4th pick: #9 (Mangrove Pond) - His lack of early speed is a concern and so is this tough outside post. Capable of rallying for a small slice, but a win seems a bit of a reach. PENN NATIONAL Race #1 at 6:00 PM Eastern Top pick: #3 (COLTRAIDER) - Hard-hitter enters this in shape and he'll be taking a big drop from an entry-level allowance to a 44K claimer. Has the best form, back class, and although the drop is suspicious, it's only a #1000 less than they claimed him for. The horse to beat. 2nd pick: #1 (Lancaster Gully) - He's 3 for 5 in abbreviated sprints and this speedy sort draws the inside post.Florida-bred ships up from Charles Town where he finished a close-up 3rd 12 days ago and he was an easy winner here in December racing here for $5K at this distance. 3rd pick: #2 (Spikeavellian) - 16 time winner scored at Chrales Town goin 4.5 furlongs on a sloppy track March 24th, his first off a 2 month break. 9 of his lifetime wins hace come on this surface and he should be involved from gate to wire. 4th pick: #6 (Joey Fries) - Claimed from the Ness barn for $5K on March 16th, he raced evenly facing tougher 8 days later in his first for the new barn. Trainer Mario Rodriguez drops him back to the purchase price and he can factor with his best.
