Horse Racing Tip Sheets - April 12, 2012
This Saturday our East Coast racing newsletter will feature the final two derby prep races. At Oaklawn Park a field of 11 will enter the gate in the $1,000,000 Arkansas Derby (G1) and just a bit earlier that afternoon 13 3-year-olds will compete in the $750K Blue Grass Stakes (G1) at Keeneland.
The other four races on our sheet that day will all be stakes races from various tracks east of the Mississippi.
Today we have selections and analysis on two races apiece from Aqueduct and Oaklawn Park. One of the two from Arkansas is the $100,000 Redbud Stakes.
From the west, we return to Santa Anita today with four premium racing selections. Get all of today's premium racing picks here.
East Coast Results: Tampa Bay Downs Race #3 Top Pick #2 (Wild Alley Cat) $3.80.
Aqueduct Race #3 Top Pick #1 (Castles Burning) $5.20.
Tampa Bay Downs Race #5 Exacta (2-5) $23.20.
West Coast Results: Oaklawn Park Race #5 Top Pick #5 (Moon Dancing) $5.80.
Top pick: #7 (RUNWAYEIGHTYFOUR) - Speedy colt by "Mineshaft" ships here from Gulfstream and races off a trainer change to Dom Galluscio and a two-month layoff. He's shown excellent early foot in his last four starts and just missed when racing at this level in Florida Jan. 25. Galluscio wins at an 18% rate with new arrivals and a 21% clip off of long breaks.
2nd pick: #1 (Jade Glory Again) - He's part of a Randi Persaud entry and with apprentice Ortiz listed on both only one will run. This lightly-raced colt has improved in all three starts since debuting and finished second last out on this surface. Major threat if he runs.
3rd pick: #5 (Indian Pow Wow) - Claimed for $32,000 last November this gelding has pressed and tired in both outings for trainer Jason Servis. Runs today off a seven-week break and barn drops him down to race for 1/2 the claimed price. He should show whatever he has in this spot.
