Belmont Stakes Pick - April 07, 2012Todays' Special Edition East Coast racing newsletter has a total of six races, five of them stakes. Included amongst them is the $1,000,000 Wood Memorial, the $400K Carter Stakes (G1), and a wide open 14-horse field in the $500K Illinois Derby (G3) from Hawthorne Race Course. Get all 11 of these key Derby prep stakes here for just $20. ![]() Today's Picks: Top pick: #4 (SILVERETTE) - The probable favorite, grey filly by "Street Sense" has finished second in both starts at Gulfstream and last out had to be rushed up following a "stumbling" start. 3-year-old cost a "cool" $290,000 as a yearling back in 2010 and had a pair of very fast works at Gulfstream before shipping north. 2nd pick: #6 (Stunning Lady) - She took some money when debuting at Gulfstream Feb. 29 and finished a pace-chasing third after being involved in a "bumping" incident at the start. Home-bred filly by "Indian Charlie" should be involved from start to finish. 3rd pick: #1a (Resonating) - One of five debuting fillies entered and she races as part of a Jimmy Jerkens trained entry with No. 1 "Evening Garden". The pair have been working in company and this filly has beaten her barn-mate twice, while they've finished evenly in the others. Daughter of "Smart Strike" draws a nice post at this trip. 4th pick: #8 (South Shore) - Bred to go longer and for the grass, nevertheless this Phipps home-bred was working both steadily and above average on the "deep" dirt surface at Payson Park before shipping north. It's always of note when John Velazquez rides any debuting runner. SANTA ANITA Race #5 at 5:05 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (QUATAR'S PEARL) - Price play has been freshened up for almost two months by trainer Simon Callaghan and he may yet to prove a useful runner. Gelding by "Tapit" has been in against some good runners along the way and last August in Ireland he was 4 lenghs back of "Daddy Long Legs" who won a $2,000,000 race last week in Dubai. 2nd pick: #3 (Aqua Revelation) - Colt by grass champ "English Channel" showed good speed while very wide when debuting here going "down the hill" Jan. 28. Working well for the Baffert barn, he'll this 3-year-olds blinkers and stretch him out in distance. Can factor today. 3rd pick: #4 (Currahee ) - Gelding has been bet in both starts and has checked in third in each. Stalker stretches-out, is brought back quickly (14 days), and will be making back to back starts for the first time. 4th pick: #6 (Montego Bay) - Son of "War Chant" has had trouble at the start in both appearances and raced evenly once in stride. Working well for his first in almost two months and he can impact with an alert beginning.
