Horse Racing Entry - March 25, 2012Our top pick # 4 Went the Day Well ($12.40) had an absolutely perfect trip when winning yesterday's $500,000 Vinery Spiral Stakes(G3) at Turfway Park. Lightly raced and improving, he's owned (Team Valor), trained (Graham Motion), and was ridden by John Velazquez, the same trio that were successful with last year's Kentucky Derby(G1) winner(Animal Kingdom). A reminder that next weekend on Saturday March 31st the $1,000,000 Florida Derby (G1) will be run at Gulfstream Park, and the following day the $1M Louisiana Derby(G1) will take place at the Fair Grounds. Both races will be part of our East Coast Racing Newsletter. Today we have two races apiece from Aqueduct & Tampa Bay Downs. Saturday's East Coast Results: Today's West Coast Racing Newsletter features a pair of rich stakes races from Sunland Park in New Mexico. A field of nine 3yos are entered in the $800,000 Sunland Park Derby (G3) a 1 1/8th mile test that has drawn horses from the barns of both Bob Baffert and Todd Pletcher. Also on the card is the $200K Sunland Park Oaks, a 1 1/16th stakes for 3yo fillies. Saturday's West Coast Results: ![]() Today's Picks: Top pick: #1 (DAZZLIN DR. COLOGNE) - He's part of an entry trained by Jamie Ness, and with the same rider (Dan Centeno) listed on both, only one will go. This veteran loves the local dirt (15-8-2-1) and returned to his winning ways last out with a very easy win here in his 2nd off a Ness claim. Barn won another 3 races here yesterday and this 7yo will be very tough if he runs. 2nd pick: #2 (Rock It) - Speed/stalker is another who likes this surface(8-5-1-1) and he'll be moving up in price after a pair of back to back wins over cheaper. Lightly raced 6yo should be involved from gate to wire. 3rd pick: #1a (College Grad) - The other half of the Ness entry, he's (4-2-1-0) at this meet and is another who has a speed/stalking running style. More that capable if he's the one that goes. 4th pick: #6 (Styner) - One run type has a lot of speed to rally into and will be dropping down after an even effort last out racing in an allowance. He's finished 2nd in three straight here prior to that and is a threat from off the pace. SUNLAND PARK Race #11 (THE SUNLAND PARKS OAKS) at 7:15 PM Eastern Top pick: #5 (GLINDA THE GOOD) - In what looks like a two-horse-race on paper, this filly gets an edge over her main rival due to an impressive win over this surface in a $50K stakes here going a mile on Feb 26th. Race was her first in 3 months and by far her best to date. Daughter of "Hard Spun" has worked well at Santa Anita since her win and trainer Steve Asmussen has her razor sharp for this. 2nd pick: #3 (Princess Arabella) - The probable favorite is undefeated ( 2 for 2) and has won both starst at Santa Anita with ease. From the first crop of "Any Given Saturday", she's in the Baffert barn, and will be racing in a stakes and around two-turns, both for the first time. Jockey Marty Garcia is in for the day and this filly is working very fast at Santa Anita for this attempt. 3rd pick: #7 (Regal Betty) - No speed type was a come from behind winner at Turf Paradise in the Arizona Oaks on Feb 25th in her first start in 3 months. Working well since, she'll need some pace help up front for any shot at the win. 4th pick: #1 (Feisty Flirt) - Locally-based filly was no match for "Glinda" last out, but it came off a 70 day freshening and she should be sharper for this attempt. Speed/stalker has the rail and may land a minor share at a nice price.
