Horse Racing Tips - March 08, 2012This Saturday's East Coast racing newsletter will feature the $350,000 Tampa Bay Downs Derby (G2) , a 1 1/16th mile test for 3-year-olds. A field of 12 will enter the gate in a race that has produced some Kentucky Derby (G1) runners over the past several years. Delta Downs Race #7 Exacta (2-6) $17.80. ![]() Today's Picks: Top pick: #3 (SAY MR. SANDMAN) - Gelding ran well here at this level and distance on Feb. 15 when he finished fourth of eight and had a very wide trip. Race was his first since finishing second when debuting at Finger Lakes on Oct. 18. Four-year-old makes back to back appearances for the first time and trainer Chris Englehart wins at a 24% rate second off a long break. 2nd pick: #1 (Russian Ally) - The probable favorite, he chased and finished second in the same race as "Sandman" in his first off a seven week freshening. Speedy sort draws the rail and is a win candidate in this spot. 3rd pick: #5 (Titus Catienus) - Four-year-old home-bred moves up in class after finishing a strong second here racing for $25K on Jan. 26. Effort was his first in 6 1/2 months and gelding has a near bullet half-mile drill on Feb. 23. 4th pick: #2 (Johardy) - He began his career in So. California and was claimed by trainer Ed Barker last July at Del Mar. Grey gelding finished an even third in his local debut and split the 1st and 2nd choices. Threat from off the pace.
