Preakness Picks - February 24, 2012Tomorrow's East Coast racing newsletter will include a pair of stakes from the Fair Grounds, including the Risen Star Stakes (G2) for 3-year-olds, the next step leading to the Louisiana Derby (G1). Both have become increasingly important over the past decade as many trainers are choosing that particular path to get horses ready for the Kentucky Derby (G1). Today, we have another two races from both Aqueduct and Tampa Bay Downs. From the west, we continue at Santa Anita with four more premium racing picks. Get them all here. East Coast Results: Aqueduct race #5 Best Bet #4 (Crossbow) $2.90. West Coast Results: Santa Anita Race #1 Exacta (7-4) $29.20. Santa Anita Race #4 Exacta (4-7) $21.40. Santa Anita Race #8 Exacta (7-6) $40.60.  Today's Picks: Top pick: #3 (STELLAR'S THEORY) - Filly stretches-out off a neck loss at this level going 6 furlongs on Jan. 14. Consistent sort meets no big drop downs and should get a solid pace to rally into. The horse to beat. 2nd pick: #6 (Nolita) - She was an impressive maiden winner here at this distance just nine days ago in her best since coming back from a 16 1/2 month layoff on Jan. 11. Well-bred, lightly raced, and a win candidate right back. 3rd pick: #1 (Twillerbee) - Runs first off a claim and her new trainer will stretch this filly out in distance. Four-year-old broke her maiden here on Jan. 2, then raced evenly at this price and distance the day she was claimed. The rail draw is a plus. 4th pick: #2 (Perfect Shadow) - She chased and tired facing tougher last out in her first local appearance and first in 80 days. Has talent, some speed, and trainer John Good drops her price in half.
