Who is the Best Quarterback in the NFL?
There are many opinions on the best QB in the NFL. There are even arguments over how the best ways to analyze the best QB in the NFL. The debate rages on, but there are really only three players in the running. Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Drew Brees are the three candidates. Each one can make a strong case for being at least considered the best QBs in the league. Which one is the best? Let’s go through the arguments and see if we can’t find a good decision on the matter.
Arguing for Drew Brees
Most arguments for Drew Brees start with the numbers. Brees has consistently put up more yards than anyone else. He has had a five-year run that can rival any in history. The problem for Brees is that his system produces a lot of the numbers. He is consistently surrounded by a group of receivers that most quarterbacks would drool over. In Jimmy Graham, he has the best tight end in the NFL. Though Brees is certainly a formidable choice, there are some downsides. Size is one concern that you must keep in mind
Arguing for Tom Brady
Most people who argue for Tom Brady will look at his numbers and his Superbowl rings. Those are definitely important factors. Brady has led the AFC’s best offense over the last decade. He has led his club to the playoffs in each year he’s been a starter. He has also overcome a major knee injury to be the QB that has was prior to the injury. The problem for Brady is that he is almost never touched. He is surrounded by literally the best offensive line in all of football. Some might penalize Tom Brady for this. Some might also say that his Superbowl rings are the work of the people around him. This would be a fair criticism in many ways.
Arguing for Aaron Rodgers
There is a very strong case to be made in favor of Aaron Rodgers. For the last two seasons, Rodgers has put up numbers better than any QB in football. He has led his club to one Superbowl title. On top of that, Rodgers does it in terrible weather. He has to put up with playing in the cold of Lambeau Field. Some might argue that he benefits from the good receivers around him. While that might be true, it is also true that he makes those receivers look a lot better. You might argue that Jordy Nelson would be a nobody if Aaron Rodgers wasn’t his quarterback.
What’s the downside here? Losing at home in the playoffs last year took a lot of luster off of Rodgers. Up to that point, it looked like he might lead the Packers to an undefeated season at some point in the future. Rodgers is not exactly trending up. The Rodgers haters will be quick to point out this fact.
So who is the best QB in the NFL? It has to be the Aaron Rodgers show in Green Bay. Despite his recent struggles, Rodgers has the best arm and the best instincts in the league. He is athletic enough to beat teams with his feet. His combined skill set is better than the other guys. These reasons all combine to make Rodgers the best choice. If you had one game and your life depended upon a win, you would probably want Rodgers as your man under center. He is the NFL’s best signal caller, ahead of Brady, Brees, and both Mannings.
