Last season, one of the best games of the season took place in Alabama. The Tide and the Tigers went to overtime in a battle that LSU squeeked out. A few months later, the Tigers and Tide met in the BCS title game. As we all know, things didn’t go so well for LSU there. Now Bama heads into Baton Rouge as a nearly ten point favorite over an LSU team that has underachieved. The game is at night in a tough environment. Can Alabama survive the heat and keep its momentum rolling toward a second straight national title?

Bama comes into this game with a clear advantage. They have a better offensive line, a better quarterback and even a better defense. The Bama special teams are also much better. If they play their best, they will beat any team in the country. Meanwhile LSU has been struggling to some extent. They have not played their best football over the last month. After losing to Florida, they barely beat a South Carolina team that has been exposed of late. LSU did get a very good road win at Texas A&M, but it was a game where they very easily could have lost.

What will it take for LSU to pull off a victory or at least cover the number? Some might say a miracle, but I don’t think it will require that much. LSU is not demonstrably worse than Bama in many areas. With comparable talent a good home field, the Tigers will just need a few early breaks to turn the tide on this game. They just need to win the turnover battle and get good punting from Brad Wing. If they can do that, they will be in this game at the end. From there, the Tigers will need to make a few big, key plays at the end of the game to pull of a historically important win.
